5 Tips for Sprucing Up Your Home with Florals

Brighten Up Your Home With Summer Florals

Now that the dull winter days and springtime drizzles are behind us, it’s time to bring the vibrance of summer florals into our homes. With just a quick trip to your local flower shop or even a few steps into your garden, you’re on your way to brightening up your living space for the better this season. Whether you want a minimalistic bouquet for your kitchen or an elegant wreath for your front door, there’s plenty of creative ways you can go about this. Florals are whimsical and wild in nature, so there’s really no rhyme or reason when it comes to designing your blooms.

Finding Your Florals

Before diving in, consider the kind of aesthetic and color palette you want for your arrangement and keep a pulse on what's in season. Look for gardenias, dahlias, hydrangeas, and sunflowers. These will likely be fresher and last longer during the summer months.

If you want to get trendy with your stems, add in some peonies, ranunculus, or anemones. If you’re getting your petals outside your garden, support a local flower shop in your neighborhood.

Put the Petal to the Metal

There’s no better gift than the gift of flowers, so why limit them to special occasions? Do something nice for yourself and exercise that DIY muscle by creating your own bouquets.

Your first step: Joanna Gaines’ step-by-step guide to building the perfect floral arrangement.

In this quick video, she walks you through selecting a color palette, gathering all your tools and choosing your ‘statement’ blooms. She also mentions bringing your emotions into play and taking note of how you want this bundle of florals to make you feel, be it playful, spontaneous or relaxed.

Not into the DIY thing - no problem! Simply add floral sheets, comforters, and pillows throughout your home.

Think Outside the Vase

Go the unconventional route and display your flowers in a watering can, mason jar or even an empty wine bottle. There’s an endless well of ideas when it comes to making a statement with your flowers. Get inventive by repurposing household items that reflect the room you’re in.

Play around with different shapes, sizes and objects and see if they jive with the look you’re going for. For example, if you have a beautifully shaped wine bottle, consider removing its labels and painting it. Instantly, you’ll have a rustic DIY vase perfect for the kitchen or dining area.

A Peony Saved Is a Peony Earned

As much as we’d love for our living blossoms to last forever, there comes a time when they have to go. Or do they?

Instead of saying goodbye, save your flowers by drying them out. Hydrangeas are one of the best flowers to test this method with. After drying, they’ll make for a fitting accent piece for your bathroom, front foyer or your farmhouse kitchen.

 A Circle of Blooms

If a wreath is what you’re looking for, start with a foam or metal ring as your base and add in your favorite blooms. You can use both real and artificial flowers to fill this up – feel free to mix and match the two. Achieve a certain look and/or aesthetic by adding in decorative pieces like greenery, branches, or ribbon.

A floral wreath is an elegant way to elevate your front door, and might even spark a little neighborhood joy. Don’t be alarmed by the neighbors suddenly stopping in front of your house to admire this new addition. Get the inspo flowing by looking through Rachel Parcell’s eclectic collection of floral wreaths this summer.
